I'm interested hearing from anyone who has done one of these new Anaconda Run? I find it hard to believe that they live up to the claim of being "the world's toughest one hour runs"?? Sounds like marketing tripe to me..
 Jury's out??

Ignoring the agro above ...
OK, I did Lorne last year and as a 36-ish minute 10 k'er, my 10.8km Anaconda run clocked in at 1:15 ... Note: I have also checked out sections of the Gold Coast and Geographe Bay courses and both feel a fraction slower than Lorne ... You can basically double your flat course time ...
Just going through the 2005 results, last year's Lorne Anaconda run was (advertised at 11.2) and the fastest runner did 57 minutes. Rowan Walker who won the 15,000 strong 14.7km Melbourne "Run for the kids" in 44 minutes crossed the line 3rd in 60 minutes. Sounds pretty tough to me. Of races this length, what's harder ?

Sorry FatBoy, but its all relative isn't it.
I ran a mountain course on 7th Jan, 13.4 km in 2:06, I hit 7km at 1000m up in 1:33, and I was in sub 40min 10km shape.
Was that harder--I don't think so. Every run is hard if you bust your guts doing it.
Every race is entitled to its 'marketing tripe' ----so you need to chill a bit.
cheers :)

I was referring to the subject line, and I have no problem with the alleged "marketing tripe".

Ahhh, but that's not a 1 hour run, is it ? You are right though, a run is only as hard as you make it. For me, 400m/800m races are the "hardest" because they are anerboic but long enough to build up the oxygen debt ... and I end up coughing for the next 3 weeks. For me, half marathons actually hurt the least because you gotta stay aerobic, and they're "short enough" so that you don't completely deplete your muscles of sugar.
You'll have to excuse my defensiveness because I loved that Anaconda run at Lorne. A definite highlight for me last year.

Well I'm using
"THE TOUGEST TRAIL RUN ON THE MORNINGTON PENINSULA"
Truth is I don't know of any other trail runs on the Peninsula.
So it must be true..

Exactly. There is no such thing as a toughest race, it all depends on how hard you run it.

Although some races are tough no matter how hard you run, especially if there are strict cutoff times. Eg, Cradle Mountain, 6FT.
World's toughest might be exaggerating a bit, but has anyone else made this claim before?

Actually it does say, "3 of the world's toughest ...", NOT "the World's 3 toughest ..."

That's crazy marketing speak for:
"3 of the world's 64,000 (or thereabouts) toughest races."

As they say any run can be tough, but the Lorne Anaconda run leg had a good variety of running; rocky shoreline, some sand, a decent climb and a steep winding descent.

Collovehammer, I actually started a thread on the Lorne Anaconda race. I found it absolute torture, the run took me nearly 1 1/2 hours I think.
At least half the distance was rock hopping from one giant boulder to the next along the shoreline. I am too old for that type of stuff and had no confidence at all so was one of the slowest competitors. The balance (having run about 2 kms along the sand on the shoreline before the rocks) was a seriously steep uphill run where I had to stop and walk a couple of times (even though I had just run the marathon non stop a few weks before), the corresponding downhill section through a rainforest which was great, and finally a freezing mangrove ridden creek crossing.
Based on my experience, it was well worth doing and lives up to the hype of being the toughest sort of "run". I pesonally would not do it again bcos I was hopeless on the rocks, but most of the people that did the Lorne race loved it and it was a brilliantly organised day.
