Has anyone transitioned from Australian Summer to European winter to do a run? What are the things to look out for?

I'm going to England for a holiday in a couple of weeks and to make it more fun am doing a half marathon in Sleaford. The distance shouldn't be a problem as I have run that far before but am wondering how the cold conditions may affect me and how I can prepare for them. ANy ideas?

England ? Probably neither qualifies as European or as winter :D
But, more seriously, if done the transition most winters over the last 7 years - living in Brisbane (until 9/05) and usually spending Chrismas/New year in Germany. So what to looks out for? I guess in England the whole "running on snow" part doesn't come into it - therefore no issue regarding running shoes. As long as it isn't too cold (above -5/-10deg.) I'm usually running in long tights, long top & tracksuit top. Stuff like gloves and hat usually are only necessary well below freezing. The one issue to be careful with, in particular before a race, is that you will need more time to warm up. I usually keep on some additional gear for warming up before a race (full tracksuit). Hope that helps.
