hi there,

what coolrunners did the Brooks or Gatorade triathlon on the weekend? How did you go?

This was my second go at triathlon and I am getting a little hooked on it! I did the Brooks mini one again 250m swim/10k ride/2.5k run. The tranisiton were longer and harder than the one at Elwood but this suits me more than others, coming from a running background.

I went in the water with a lot less panic than the first time and managed to swim the whole way with freestyle....a huge improvement. Still I was only average....coming 46th out of 92. Last time I think I was in the bottom 10% !!

I did great transitions and was also 4th on the bike leg (and I rode a 18 year old 'touring' bike!!), and I was 1st in the run leg.(and I felt soooooo slow)...in all I was so excited to realise I came 2nd in my age group and 7th overall female !!

I really want to improve my swim leg...open water swimming takes time I suppose and my technique will come with some advice and practice....will this take a long, long time to be a more efficient swimmer?

no, other commitments were higher priority.

re the swimming. maybe a year to a year and a half to become an ok swimmer. sounds like you're improving fast anyway.

congrats on the placing

I went out for my run on Sunday and as I live close by I ran down to Sandringham to watch my Sports Physio compete in the Gatorade Series.
There was a huge turn up (close to 2000)and the whole event was very well organised.
I felt sorry for the volunteer life guards who sat on their boards for hours directing the swimmers. They must have been freezing.
Finished off another 10km along the beach watching the riders on the bike leg as I ran.
Very impressive, but I don't think TRI's are for me.

Well done DUR, these tri's look like some fun for those who want to try them and see how they go.
I believe there is a similar one in Geelong sometime in April, maybe around easter, which I would like to try as my daughter lives there and is going to give it a go. Be good fun to do a tri with her. Anyone got any links to the series or how I can find out any info?

Pabags......hope you do get to the tri in Geelong...it is suppose to be a great course.

Cato - I had the same feeling of 'tri's are not for me' only a two months ago !! Then I watched my husband do one for the first time and thought 'well, I will just do one to see what all the fuss is about' and now I LOVE IT! At this point of time however, I still love my pure running events more, especially events like the Puffy Billy.

I think what triathlons have taught me thought is running fairly fast is still possible even though my legs (quads especially) are wobbly and tired after the ride (and swim, because i kick so much as I am not a good swimmer !!).

Rohan - I think you may be right - swimming much more efficiently will take a fair time.

Any one else with race reports?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of more tri's in Sydney or NSW? There are a few around, but would like to do more mid distance events.

Cheers,
Darryn

Darren,

There are two more heats in the Kurnell series left - 750m swim, 20k ride, 5k run - on the 26th Feb and then 12th March. Have a look at trinsw.org.au for all the details..
