so are any CRs doing the kathmandu adventure sprint on the gold coast this sunday (9th july)?
doing it with a mate from work - who incidentally is in charge of navigation, mtb and kayak (though he doesnt know it yet).
my first 'adventure race/sprint' and am very excited.
just planning to finish without breaking anything.
usually struggle to find the car in the carpark at the shops so the nav will be a real challenge.
have entered under the team name 'coolrunning' - hope KT isnt embarrased when we come last.

Have a great race. Once you get hooked on it you can go ultra on the adventure races......

Dude, I hope for your sake it's actually an adventure, with real trails (and some singletrack please), rather than suburban warfare... We had "three fat kayak paddlers vs the floating SUV" and "up the fire trail, down the fire trail, up the fire trail, down the fire trail" episodes wink.gif

Where is the start/finish loc and time? Seeing as I am out of action for a bit, might come down for a looksee, if I can afford some petrol.

well about 80% of that was shit fun and 20% shit scary.
will write a more extensive report on the blog but for those that are interested in this kind of craziness...
highlites were the 2.3kmish double kayak to (pretty much) start the day... with the twist being that we needed to take the bikes with us!!
the next mtb section was quite scary for me in parts - having very little mtb experience.
sharp uphils and downhills that needed accurate lines that i could never seem to find.
as well as the paddle/mtb/run there was an advertised 'mystery' leg.
and this was .... yes ... wait for it .... more bloody techinical mtb!
ended up pushing the bike about 80% of this section after hitting a rock and going over the handlebars.
would not have been a good start to my holidays next week breaking a bone or 2.
unfortunatelty only about 3km or so of running involved but i relished the chance to steal the map off my navigationally astute partner and try and find some of those cute little orange and white thingys.
thanks to my teammate (and workmate) stephen and to tanky for coming down and yelling out 'go coolrunner' at least once.
for the record i think we came midpack in the mens finishing in just under 3 hrs with the winners doing 2.07 and the winners of the mixed (guy andrews/narelle ash) finishing in under 2 hrs!
not a bad effort for first timers.

Well UCB, thanks for the lift there. I think I only yelled "Go Coolrunner" once. After the race started I was surprisingly busy. Having walked the entire mystery leg I can confirm that it was technical but not really super-technical... I mean it was single track at least, which is more than most adventure races give you. You guys did awesome, it was great to see you finish looking so happy.

I also posted a report, from a volunteer point of view, on my blog.
