Awesome video.. Was up in Boulder CO for work a few weeks ago and apparently Dave Scott is up there and has a large gym. You can even get him to train you. I did Ironman way back in '86 in the Molina/Allen/Tinley/Scott glory days. I had hoped to get back there this year to see if I could go faster 20 years on. Unfortunately I'm 10kg over my racing weight from those days. Might try for 2011 the 25 year anniversary. Thanks for the link.. Brendan

Virtual. How did you get into it back in'86? What is your story?

In 1985 A Dr called Bill Roney from Tamarama put on a race in Forster which were the same distances as the Hawaii Ironman race. I bet a mate from the Tamarama surf club at the London Tavern one night in Paddington that we could do it. We both entered. Managed to finish in 12hrs on minimal training. Went to NZ (that's where the qualifier was in those days) qualified. And went to Hawaii in '86. Didn't run so well. ~50th out of the water, ~70th off the bike, ~195 at the end. There were about 1400 in it that year. Then there was the 4th event.. A story for another day. As always I wasn't in the elite placings but still enjoyed my day out as I do now.

Three Australians wore wetsuits. Me, Tony Sattler and (?) (Brother of a famous olympic kayaker steve? scott?). They banned wetsuits the follwing year. 1986 eas the last year with normal handlebars, in 1987 everyone had scott dh bars.

Great video! Thanks Bevan.

It's this sort of viewing that makes you want to get out there, work your butt off and set your sights on completing an ironman... rolleyes.gif
