Does anyone know if there is a waterproof pouch on the market that can hold an electronic car key safely whilst in the water ?

I use a small Aquapac which holds cash and keys. I tuck it inside my wetsuit, or into boardshort pockets when I'm out in the surf. So far so good....keys have survived and remained dry. Yachties swear by them...and they're supposed to float.

If you want to make doubly sure, you could always put your keys inside one of those Glad snapseal bags, then put it inside the Aquapac...not that I've needed it.

This is what it looks like....I bought mine from this store a couple of years ago. They also make them for mobile phones, GPS....and presumably iPods, MP3 players.

You're welcome!

Hope it suits your purposes. smile.gif

As an aside, I thought I'd check out the other AquaPac product offerings, and they now have 'rugged, professional-grade' bags that are held around your arm (similar to iPod armband cases) by Velcro.

Not sure where you can get these in Australia, but here's the link to the AquaPac site:

Could be worth a look, although I like the idea of having a big strap that goes around my torso and the bag held in a pocket. I'm not sure how secure the armband would be in the surf and although it floats, wouldn't want to go looking around in rough surf (unless I wear it really tightly and cut off circulation....).
