Alright, alright, alright.

Brown is in. Can't say I'm too excited about it but hey, you don't often get an opportunity to inflict a bit of discomfort on your coach, do you? tongue.gif
NorthernBeaches
So it looks like there is going to be a good number participating and the weather so far looks like it might be OK.

Good luck everyone!

Good luck to all the girls racing on Sunday.

We will be coming down from the Central Coast by train to cheer you all home.

We will be getting our exercise by walking to the Regatta Centre from Emu Plains Station. So if you see a couple of old bears wandering along the side of the road give us a toot and a wave.

Wonderful photos Gnome - thanks smile.gif

Full report is on my blog but in summary - horrid swim, good ride, even better run. Still, it was (I think) a PB. Waiting for the official results to come out because I forgot to stop my watch - again.

Thanks to Gnome, Coach TA, Mouse & NTR for a lovely morning.
Mouse
An awesome day out today smile.gif Definitely no PB for me but it was a great confidence booster, yes I can still complete the distance (albeit a little slower thasn last season!).

Awesome efforts by all, especially wildthing, TA and Jen - I love our little CR groups as these events and I really appreciated all the cheers, I was in pain for most of it and needed them to keep me (and my sore butt) going!!! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the photos Gnome, they are fantastic - I almost look like an athlete! tongue.gif

It was a great day for the girls and their attentive cheer squad ( though we missed you Rommel :-).

After a two year taper I decided (or should that read "Wildthing twisted my arm") to up my distance and do the sprint. I even joined the local kiddy squad for some swim practice ( at least I can beat the 8 year old) tongue.gif . I knew I could do each distance but stringing it together was the challenge.

I figured that if I had an absolute brilliant day 1.30 may be possible but more likely 1.35-1.40. Well, it came together better than expected and I crossed the line in 1.28.30 yahoo.gif Gotta be a PB being the first.

I immediately started entertaining the idea of doing Kurnell next week and have booked it. Maybe I can twist Wildthing's arm this week. (Good water practice for Sept/Oct ninja.gif )

Woohoo - that's awesome TA. You'll have a great race - both at Kurnell & in Sept/Oct tongue.gif

Edit: TA, Mango just said that if you are doing Kurnell, he will do it too yahoo.gif

Hi All

Thought I'd post here about my first ever triathlon yesterday. Arrived feeling nervous but sat and watched the enticer event and that seemed to help. I got into the bike area nice and early and worked out my set up, walked around, made sure I could find my bike and so on. I had my brightly coloured towel, elastic laces and felt very glad to have had all this excellent advice.

Anyway I really enjoyed myself, the swim went far better than I thought and was in the first group to get out of the water, much to my surprise. Had a good transistion onto the bike, got to about 1-2 km and watched nearly everyone, it felt, go past me. I have only been training for 6 weeks and it showed, I had just no strength in my legs to go much faster, was doing 30km most of the way round and couldn't find anything more. So when I went into the run, I felt more exhausted than normal, my brick sessions helped a lot as I knew how I was feeling would pass, but still did the 5k much slower than I would have liked.

My times were: 0:09.52 (9) swim/ 0:45.41 (34) bike/ 0:24.37 (10) run/ 1:20.10 (24) overall. 30-39 age group.

I had the most amazing day though, the atmoshphere was great and the people friendly and would love to do another sprint event - when I've had a bit more practice on the bike.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, made a big difference! Good to see everyone else had a good day too.

Congratulations NB - that is an incredible result for your first triathlon, particularly given your limited training. I think you're a natural at this biggrin.gif

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet. Next time make sure you come & introduce yourself !
tiger angel
Hi NB,

We did wonder if you were there but figured you would have to come to us as we had the CR caps on tongue.gif . Sounds like you had a great day. You could always try Kurnell next Sunday which is the same length bike and run but a 750m swim. I'm doing it for the first time

ps Thanks Mango - it will be nice to know someone else biggrin.gif
NorthernBeaches
Thanks everyone. I didn't see any cool running caps but next time will be sure to come and say hi.

Will be doing more sprint ones hopefully, just need to take some time to get this bike thing sorted I think. Apart from Kurnell what other events are coming up? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
NB

Congrats to all the CR girls for their awesome performances yesterday. yahoo.gif

Sounds like everyone had a ball and exceeded their expectations along the way.

My pleasure TA. I'm looking forward to it. cool.gif
Jen_runs
Sorry to see you didn't get any splits TA dry.gif

As for Kurnell, if I could be confident that I could swim without drowning & run 5kms, I'd join in the fun.

But I can't - so I'll keep Gnome company instead wink.gif

Overall I had a pretty good day with my race going mostly as planned - except the swim mad.gif

I did a 500m TT at the pool on Friday so was happy I could swim the distance in under 15 mins as I had planned. I felt so good that I even planned to give the swim a little nudge and see what I could do. Not so on the day!

For some stupid reason I just couldn't get into a rhythm in the water and had to stop a few times. At about the half way point I got my act together and actually swam pretty well towards the finish. I don't really understand what happened. I was excited about the race and knew that the swim should pose no problem and I am regularly swimming about 2.5km in training. Anyway, shit happens and I'm chalking this one up to experience.

Coming into transition I was pretty mad at myself about the swim so I decided to take my anger out on the bike leg and ended up averaging about 26km/hr around the course which is pretty good for me.

My ankle has still been a bit dodgy after spraining it in the Blue Mountains in December so the plan for the run was to alternate running 4 minutes with walking 1 minute. Doing this realistically I wanted a sub 40 min 5km - which I did! I enjoyed the run and felt pretty strong. Also it was great to watch the storm clouds approaching.

I was the last person to finish and I got a bit teary when Aunty K came out onto the course in her socks and ran in with me. I love triathlon but find it an enormously humbling experience from where I sit at the back of the pack.

I have great support. My tri club interrupted their long ride to watch and cheer. My Mum and Dad travelled down from the Central Coast on the train, and then walked the 6km to the Regatta Centre, to watch me race. The CR girls had great races and were great support too.

I just need to find some speed.

I wouldn't run in my socks for anyone else & seeing you in tears made me teary also.

Well, I just did the try-a-tri event, but it was my first triathlon so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

My swimming is my weak point (not that I'm "strong" on anything) - I started out too fast from excitement and started feeling really exhausted about half way through. My legs were rubber when I came out of the water!

I didn't know you had to run over the mats to get timed, so I don't have splits for the swim and cycle parts. But I did my run in 7:13 which I'm pretty happy with, and a total time of 26:48. I came 22nd out of 50 and am feeling happy with that.

My boyfriend and I really want to try an enticer now (would be his first) - but I really need to learn to swim first!

Anyway, just my excited ramblings...

Not half as humbling as it is for someone, who didn't even make it to the start line (despite wanting to), to read your race report. Wildthing, you have my complete admiration. Well done!

Wildthing you have another race under your belt. Family and friends there to support you. Doesn't get better emotionally than that.
