I am looking at these as have read good reviews and like the sound of their double sided entry? I have SPD pedals at the moment and though they are ok don't think they are anything special. Had anyone had good or bad experience with Speedplay? What do you suggest zero's or X series? Are they easy to get in Australia?

speedplays are good for people who have extreme intoeing or out toeingfor a few reasons, perfectly good pedals otherwise,i still think it is still faster to run the bike with the shoes attached and put them on up the road well away from the transition at speed, speedplays are expensive when for no great advantage-briz

Really good pedals! Very light, heaps of cornering clearance. I only have the cheaper ones, I think with the heavier (cheaper)axle?
Yeah, a ot of shops seem to be stocking them now, I noticed the other day at that bikebug store they had some pedal shoe deal that seemed pretty good value?

I've got Speedplay Zeros - they go good - double sided entry is a bonus - although as brizza said if you attach your shoes to them in a triathlon then the bonus is nullified. On the road however say in the 'burbs or the city where you are constantly clipping/unclipping, then its good - don't need to look down at your pedals!

I did have one problem with them - the plate on my shoe actually came off once when i was unclipping - screws gone etc - add to pedal one-legged for 10kms to the finish...mmm wasn't sure whether it was bikeshop error or cleat error or even mine... ninja.gif

The movement, or "float", takes a bit of getting used to if you have used SPD pedals (feels like your feet are pedalling on ice!) but doesn't take long.

Yep - they are easy to get in Aus - most bike shops would stock them.

Cheers

I also have the speedplays (aka lolipops) and find them great no looking down just put your foot on and pedal yahoo.gif

The only thing I found was that if using for triathlon and or in wet weather the clip is made of steel and if you dont lube it up every now and then it rusts a bit but then again you should be doing things like that anyway <_<
