I had the honour of sharing in the farewell to Greenie late last week. He will be always remembered as a kind and generous man, as well as a great athlete. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now Pam.

Well, Greenie was fairwelled in style last Friday by literally hundreds of friends and family that spilled out into the forecourt of the Chapel.

Uelogies were delivered by Westies own Minister Brian Rensford, Paul "Sturgo" Sturgess, Graeme "Mountain Man" Kerruish, Joan "Eiso" Eisenhuth and Robert "Davo" Davidson who all shared with us different aspects and anecdotes from Ian's personal and sporting life.

It was, I guess fairly light hearted as those occasions go, but still many tears shed.

I'm not sure what Greenie would be thinking of it all, maybe somewhat embarassed by all the fuss he'd caused.

Go the Green Machine. RIP

I was lucky enough to attend care of Queen Bee's taxi service (many thanks). There were a lot of runners and triathletes there, way too many to fit in. I think the service was superb - just the right tempo between a solemn occasion, and a good send off by his mates. Whilst I had only met Ian and Pam over the last 5 or 6 years, we emailed a lot. I didn't realise how much respect he had by Westies and the Tri community. I met a lot of old faces (many of the Tri crowd are ex-runners).

Just a last post to this thread - I talked with Bill Lancashire last night and he asked me to pass on a message on behalf of the Port Macquarie Base Hospital. IM competitors may recall Bill as the fellow competitor who spoke with the British accent at race briefing and introduced himself as the Head of the ICU up at the hospital.

Bill just wanted to pass on his thanks to Pam's family and friends who handled themselves so incredibly well, and provided such wonderful support for Pam, Ian's mum and immediate family. Not sure if this is much consolation, but Bill obviously sees many similar situations in his position in ICU - however he was very moved by the level of support that was shown to Ian's family by fellow competitors, and the strength that Pam and her family displayed during their time there.

Great to see so many green armbands at yesterday's NSW Club Tri Championships at Nelson Bay.

I didn't go to the official function Saturday night, so I don't know if Ian was remembered in any other way over the weekend, but I sure hope so.

Anyone there who might know?

Channel 9 had the Ironman Race on today.

As the credits rolled at the end.

The very last thing that appeared on the screen was dedicating the telecast to Greenie happy.gif and sad.gif

Yeah, great to see so many green armbands on what was a spectacularly fun and fabulous day. Pam was there with Greenie's trannies cap and her well-known IM red bell - and she was over-the moon to see and hear from so many well wishers out there during the race.

She had a ball dancing with the Hills, LAPD and Port Mac Tri Clubs at the preso and told me me to tell everyone she had a wonderful weekend cool.gif

Now, if we could just do something about people talking through the official presentation speeches ...

Don't know if anybody caught the bit on Mrs Green Machine last night on Sports Tonight just after 11, brought back many memories as they showed some footage of Ian running as well as interview with Pam and footage of her completing her first Triathlon at Penrith (i guess last weekend), unfortunately didn't have the computer on at the time or would have burnt a copy to disk,

I saw it last night, and saw her on Sunday as I was participating in the same event. I contacted trishave (the event sponsors) about this yesterday as I thought it was being aired on Monday night and that I'd missed it. They were planning to record it and put it up on their site here but it's not there yet.

I saw Pam on Friday. She says Ian's ashes will be scattered 50% at Port Mac Ironman and 50% in Lake Gillawarna where the westies run.

I was really pleased to see Pam on the news the other day. She looked happy to finish.
