bayin I think that there is one in Canberra but I am not sure of when! also look at the sri chinmoy long course one... i think Canberra is going to be as close as you get unless they are unleashing a new one!

Hey Bayin
Remember me??
Canberra is definitely closest geographically, but I'm not sure when it is. Port Macquarie is April 6, pretty tough course for a first HIM, though, but there is mucho accommodation and activities.
I personally prefer Gold Coast HIM at Coomera and will be up there in September for that. Then it's hey-ho to Busselton for my first Full Ironman on Dec 2 (hopefully).
Glad to see you have the tri bug and are looking for bigger challenges.
Let me know what other vents you are chasing and we will try to catch up properly this time.
Cheers

Canberra and Port Macquarie are the only two I'm familiar with in NSW.
Port is 11th November and Canberra is 16th December this year. April is when the full Ironman is held at Port.
Hope you find one that suits, and see you up here if Port fits the bill.

Port looks like a good option but not sure if I will be ready by November. Canberra would be perfect but 16th December might end up being just a little to close to Christmas than I could deal with so looks like I might have to aim for Port and just see how I go. 194 days to go hmm wonder if it's enough time.

Yeah go for it. There are a few hills on the course, but the views should take your mind off them!
Hope the training goes well, and while you're at it convince Ellie to join you on the start line as well

i gave up triathlons for life, sprint distances were to expensive, olympic distance died out and i couldn't deal with trianing all year for one or two events for it all to go wrong on the day-brizza

Yes, I think Ellie is in sekrit training for the Canberra, Port Mac or Gold Coast HIM. We know she has what it takes.
For those interested,
here is a link to the Australian Half Ironman Series.

Hi Bayin
all comes down to the old compete or complete thing. november is plenty of time. i did coomera last year as first HIM (also first triathlon) for the experience...with zero swimming prior and 8 weeks of cycling. i had done marathon in July, then had a month off. so bascially aug to oct to run and ride. took me bang on 6 hrs but had a great time...560 or something out of 950 was fine for me. (i think POrt in Apr 08 is only the full IM?)
Go for it, you'll be fine!

Ooooh no no no.
There is a small outing in early December in Busselton known as the WA Ironman, and that is where I will be (hopefully) this year.
Which means I will be recovering over Christmas, and not training for Hobart or Canberra and can eat everything in sight = Yay!!
BTW for those interested CR runitloveit is in Busso AS WE SPEAK getting ready to do the WAHIM on Sunday.
You go, Girl!

hey muzman hope you have a great day at WAIM.
and to those considering HIM distance it's a great buzz, without the training turning into a parttime job. (a very sensible challenge)

Bayin - another one to consider is the Aust Long Course Champs in Huskisson, Jervis Bay. Bit closer to Sydney for you - a touch shorter than a HIM (2km/80km/20km) and it's staged in February.
Otherwise, we'd love to see you up here in Port later this year - don't worry, the course isn't really that bad. And keep an eye on the Sri Chinmoy schedule of races. There's a few different distances offered throughout the year.
Hell of the West is another one. Perhaps not an easy one for a first outing, but it's still in NSW (albeit a little far away from Sydney)

Thanks Miners looks like a good option so I think I'll be going for the Jervis Bay Tri and then Port in 2008 would rather be Competitive.
Cya there in 2008.
