Howdy All.

Hope everyone had a good day at the Busselton Half Ironman, i am sure that there where a few PB's set from CR Members?

I personally had a good day out for my first Tri over Olympic Distance with a time of 5hrs 28mns. After this race was very enjoyable I am leaning towards making a debut in December at the Ironman Distance.

Also, how did everyone find the Drafting on the Bike leg? Did many get caught?

Cheers

I came over from Melbourne with a group of 10 (8 competing). We all smashed our expectations (6 were first timers at HIM didtance) Fantastic course, great support, loved it. I managed a 5.05 (goal was 5.20 to 5.30) Set a 3 minute half marathon PB of 1.35 in the process, which blew me away (don't worry I felt it the next day!) The run leg got me 2nd in my category and 109th overall. My overall result was 13th in my category, which I am thrilled with. We are all talking about stepping up now too, but I am planning to make my marathon debut in Melbourne in October, so I think if we do a full ironman, it will be NZ in March. I'm in, but I've got to persuade the hubby!!!
Congrats on your result i think I saw a coolrunning top on the course.

Jo.c Congrats on a good day out!!

There was huge support on the coarse all day long, even though the whether was pretty avg to be standing around in.

I am also looking at doing IM NZ but wont be looking at till 2009, so maybe nail Busso a couple of time first (handy only living 30mins away from a Ironman)

Well I did my HIM debut and Busselton and had a great time. I was just hoping to finish and thought if everything goes well then I might do around 6.15 so I was totally stoked to come in at 5.55.

The one lap swim was great, I guess I got to appreciate it more than most because I was in the water for such a long time (I'm a slow swimmer!). I followed the pack and didn't get too lost. Very pleased to have completed my first ocean swim.

I could have done without the rain on the first lap of the bike, it took my a long time to warm up out there and I was very cautious through the turns on the way out of town. I didn't have trouble with drafting (again, I am pretty slow so don't think anyone would bother drafting off me!) but I saw a lot of big packs out there on the course. Also saw an accident with people who must have touched wheels, about 6 of them down on the course. I hope they were all OK.

Really enjoyed the run as I got to overtake people (finally!). Did 2 hours for the run and my PB over that distance is 1.50, so I was pretty happy about that.

Crossing that finish line was such a huge buzz, and even though in those last 4km I was promising myself that I will NEVER EVER make myself do another triathlon EVER, I'm planning on coming back in December to doing my Ironman Debut.

Busselton is a fantastic town and the support from the crowd and volunteers is amazing - that guy who was watching from his front lawn wearing only a pair of red undies and a beer box on his head certaintly got me smiling!

Well done all the CRs - hope to meet up with you all in December at Ironman!

Congraulations runitloveit. I was wondering how you went after reading your posts on previous Busselton threads. Its great to hear that you had such a good day, and exciting that you will going for the big one in December. Keep us posted on your training.

Congrats to Jo C and Neavesy and any other CRs. I hope you are all enjoying your recovery.

Runloveit, I think that Guy in the Red undies made everyone laugh, he had a long day of yelling an cheering everyone on, I didnt see him stop once.

Not sure about everyone else's down time, but I am over it already and seeing I am still running 3 times a week, I dont know how people stay sane when they stop training for a couple of weeks/months.

Muzzo, you make a good point about BSN Ironman being nameless, they should really work on that, any suggestions? what about "The Soul PB Race in Australia" (Soul being the major sponsor and from what I hear on CR there have been a few Personla Best set on this coarse) tongue.gif

Thanks Aunty K and Muzman!!

That red undie guy was great! Couldn't of asked for a better cheersquad - hope someone has booked him for ironman!

I have to admit Neavesy I am itching to start training again, particularly now I have decided to do Ironman! But I really think I need a mental break after all that training, so I am thinking of it as 'exercising' rather than 'training'. Took the mountain bike out on the weekend and had a 45 minute run, and now I am going to concentrate on doing some circuit/weights classes, some pilates and some swimming before starting my ironman training.

I'll start a Busselton Ironman tread as well, so we can all keep each other up to date with how the training goes.

Muzman and I were calling it the 'nameless' race, because I didn't want to jinx myself before the half-ironman. I really wanted to see how I went in that race before publicly stating that I was going to do the full ironman. I do like your suggestion though!!
Neavesy
Runloveit; Sounds fair about the not jinxing yourself, sounds like it worked.

Look forward to to BSN Ironman Thread.

Hi All

I haven't even started my downtime yet and I am starting to wish it was over!

Seriously, I have been so busy that my body and mind are crying out for a rest - and hard as it is, I know I've gotta have one.

It's a bit like taper - evrybody knows the benefits of doing it, but no-one wants to stop doing stuff!

"Exercising" vs "Training" is a great way to look at it, RILI - it makes us sound almost normal!
