I used to do a few as I am a non swimmer also. I wasnt great, usually around mid field but I had fun.

What exactly did you want to know?

My first multisport event was a bike leg in a duathlon at Eastern Creek in 91 or 92 (memory hazy). I quite like them but they dont seem to be as popular now. Run/Bike/Run in various distances. The Australian Duathlon champs are on in Newcastle this weekend but I canned my entry due to the closeness of GC marathon and travelling. Besides we have a club one on next week that only takes an hour or so to do.

There used to be a lot over winter...There was Panthers and Dapto...In fact one of the Dapto ones is the only DNF I have ever had in more than 200 tri's/duathlons races....Some lowlife poured a heap of tacks over the road about half way out...I usually now always carry a repair kit just in case.

I think they should put more of them on. There are a lot of people who dont like swimming but like to run and ride. Particularly teams events to encourage the novices. They got me into multisport so it could help boost flagging numbers in tri's etc experienced in NSW...Qld and Vic seems to be going quite strong tho.

Your best bet is to join a tri club as they usually hold them over winter...Your profile doesnt indicate where you are from but if you use this link http://www.triathlon.org.au/ it can direct you to your state organisation. If you join a club the club races are usually only a few $ . It is the staged events which get a little more expensive.

On the subject of duathlon, I was going to be doing my first sprint duathlon tomorrow at Knox -

I injured my left leg running last week (adductor and TFL) and I thought I'd be better by now but it still hurts to run. I'm so disappointed! Oh, well, I guess there's another one coming up in a few weeks...I've been training hard for it too...

I cant swim more than a few very slow strokes so I've been thinking along the lines of a duathlon as well. Once I update my bike that is-i have a 30 year old Malvern Star which I grabbed off my brothers rubbish heap and screwed together, replacing bent forks along the way. I'll try a duathlon when I get around to updating to something faster-or at least something with alloy wheels!

My first was Holsworthy in the mid 1980s. 5km, 20km? 5km was the combination . I was on the edge the whole way.

Quite different to ride after a run.

They were good fun.

I've been riding the bike to the races lately and then riding home. Didn't know I was doing a duathlon. Do they count? I always come first place biggrin.gif

I may be able to help as Duathlon was my main sport for about 6 years. Have done 4 national championships and 2 world duathlon champs in Europe.
It's a tough sport, I know quite a few triathletes that hate Du's because they hammer your legs so much...
I'm echoing Rock Doctor here, what do you want to know?
