outrigger
Hi all.
I am an Outrigger canoeist who wants to get fit and increase my max heart rate levels through running as a cross training tool.
I need help....
Our sport is what you would call marathon distances, in relation to running. The problem is with outrigger canoing is that the legs are used for bracing and "pushing" as we enter the paddle into the water and pull. There must be another use for the legs other than just coming for the ride? You guys might be able to help?
If the muscles in my legs are developed, and fit, will they help with the transfer of Lactic acid buildup from my torso/arms area back into reusable energy?
Do you think this system is viable?
I haven't run in ages... years... but I went out tonight for the first time and ran 2km without too much trouble...ok may be a little rolleyes.gif
Can anyone answer my above questions? and does anyone know where I can get a program that can increase my fitness from this 2km mark.. and not from the walk/jog level?
I would appreciate any good feedback

Regards

Maybe intervals of sprints, where the upper body is also used and requires anaerobic strength as well as aerobic, would be better than just going for a run? I know my heart rate usually increases more during an interval workout than it does during a run.
