Full Version: What A Fantastic Way To Start The Day!

The tri squad was doing a Noosa training session this morning. As I didn't particularly fancy getting up at 4am to drive to Noosa to train for an event I won't be doing, I thought I would allow myself the luxury of a sleep-in.

Instead, I did my own little triathlon and it was an awesome way to start the day!

Admittedly, I have had some pretty buzzing starts before when I have done some running PB's, but as I've been out of action in the running scene for a few months due to injury I've been putting my energy into triathlon training.

For those Brisbanites you'll know the areas:

I did 1km swim at the QUT pool, followed by a hasty towel try and run outside to my bike. I didn't want to leave my road bike chained up outside so I just bought along the MTB.

I then road very hard to Toowong and back (8km). My heart-rate was about 165bpm so quite a bit higher than the swim (150-155bpm) - I was putting in a decent effort.

On my return back to QUT I quickly chained up my bike and commenced the run leg. This was the transition I wanted to be done most quickly as I've been told the change from cycling to running in a triathlon is quite gruelling.

I did the 3.5km loop across the Goodwill bridge and along southbank and back, over the Victoria Bridge and back to QUT.
The run leg was very slow and definitely unlike the effort I would put in under race conditions. I don't want to hurts my knee(s) again so I was taking it very easy.

Total time was about 1 hr and 1 minute (including transitions) so I'm pleased with that effort. I was quite hot by this stage so a scull of my sports drink went down well. I cooled off with a few gentle laps at the pool before heading home.

I felt so pumped at the end of that and I am really looking forward to my first triathlon on October 21.

(Apologies for those who have read this post elsewhere - I like to share the good news!)

Congrats on a great session Sunset. I'm impressed that you swam 1km in a 25m pool!

Great stuff! It sucks that they wont let you take a bike into the pool area at QUT as well. First triathlon in October? Sounds to me like you just did one. Nothing to fear now.
