I just signed up for Tri Pink smile.gif 300m swim / 9km bike / 3km run

This is my first tri therefore it's only a small one. Should be fun. Anyone else entering?

Hi,

Yep, I've entered. Will be my first triathlon although I have done an aquathon (swim/run) before. The swim was in Wollongong Harbour.

Bought a new bike just for the occasion.

Really looking forward to it.

Thinking about it - it's important to fly the flag for women's events

I can't see how they are going to have the swim section in a pool.... can someone explain how they start the race? (i.e. say 500 people want to do the longer course... how can they all be in the pool?)
Is it a staggered start?

Hi Seris,

The last time I checked there were about 200 women across 4 events that are being held (in Sydney). Each of the 4 events start at different times ranging from 7am (for the short 7-9 yrs) through to 10am (for the longer event)

According to the participant's manual
"the pool will be marked off with lane ropes. The number of lane ropes will be dependant on the length of the event eg. there will be no lane ropes for the 50m swim, there will be 5 lane ropes for the 300m swim.
Participants will be required to swim up each lane and then move under the ropes and across to the next lane to swim back for their second lap. This will continue until you reach the exit ramp.
There will be plenty of room for everyone and we will be using a wave start format where participants will start their swim off individually every 30 seconds. There will be a ramp at the end for you to exit on.
Your event number and wave number will be printed on a wrist back which you will receive at registration. Please be sure to note these numbers as they will be applicable to your start."

So basically you zig-zag your way across the pool.

awww, there isn't one in Brisbane or anywhere else in Qld. If there was, I would seriously consider it.

That's done it for me........... I won't be a starter. After doing a couple of Noosa half tris I can't see the enjoyment of having new tri starters having to swim like this..........In Noosa we swim around a canal for 1.5kms. There is nothing worse than having people swim over the top of you. Organisers, please be aware that a strong swimmer (not me) is more important than a strong runner (Me..)Please get the strong swimmers going first.

Seris - did they let people into the water every 30 secs in Noosa? 30 secs is quite a gap....I can't imagine we'll all be on top of each other.

Thinking about it, I suppose it's only 300 metres, so 30 seconds is probably heaps of time. Thanks for the info. I still think they should get the stronger swimmers going first.
