If any group can appreciate an 8 minute video of someones training run then it is this group. smile.gif
Ryan Hall, who has just won the US Olympic marathon trial in NYC last weekend, put out this video (before the race) and commentary on his life and his running.
Yes, he is a god-botherer, but even if you are not that way inclined it is still an inspiring video for an insight into the No.1 pick for the US Olympic Marathon team.

Thanks for posting the link. He sure is a smooth mover and has the potential to go on to great things.
I think next years Olympic Marathon may be the best ever and it will be great to see how guys like Hall and Troopy go up against the likes of Tergat and Geb if they all toe the line. Can't wait.

Beautiful location to run in.

Hi all,

I have forwarded the video to three mates (not all male) as I often tell them running has a spiritual dimension.

One is the the Rector of Darling Street Anglican Church...so Bay runners who might go there might end up seeing it. Also to a Head of a school in the Blue Mountains and someone else who looks after all the Christian Education in Public Schools in Victoria.

One comment back was - it was refreshing to see someone put their faith in God first rather than just hoping God would help them with their goals (running).

cheers Plu

Thanks Clyde for finding the video link of Ryan Hall (& for the pm). I first met Ryan at a track meet in Maine USA in 2000. I was introduced to his coach & was subsequently introduced to the (at the time) talented junior 1500m runner. His wife Sara is also a very talented distance runner.

It is truly inspirational footage of a runner (World class marathoner) training to be the best he can be. It is something that all on CoolRunning should see as it epitomizes what this forum should be all about - inspirational - motivational - encouraging ... fellow runners of all abilities in achieving their best whilst enjoying running & life. Yes, he does talk about his faith & the qualities he gains from it which I personally found interesting - particularly the reference of loosing the balance & taking the sport too seriously. I think the video correlates well with another thread (the legitimate, well intentioned positive one) on this forum but this shouldn't deter any runner (no matter what his/her belief may be) from watching it as it is positive & uplifting. Putting that aside, from a Podiatrists point of view, it is interesting viewing the biomechanics of a world class distance runner for about 6 min.

The video also brought back memories of the beautiful Mammoth Lakes area where I spent some time training at in 2000. I can tell you at that altitude it isn't easy putting together a string of 5 min. miles... & at the temperature he is running at.

I had the privilege of watching him ace it at the Olympic trials a week ago, inspirational stuff, an incredible run.

great video. Now that was one quick training run at altitude and into the wind for the last third- more uphill than downhill as well! Looks like a beautiful place to train Ben Hur- no wonder you enjoyed it there.

I loved that video and it inspired me to run my hardest tonight for a 2km pb time of 6:50 but most of all it really resonated that life is about true balance...not the lazy form of balance we are all accustomed to.

While personally not into his beliefs, the shear raw excellence of what he executes is totally inspiring:

I posted this one the London 2008 thread but I'm not sure anyone saw it so I thought I'd add it here as well.

It's an interview with Ryan Hall after this year's London marathon. He goes into a fair bit of detail about the pace and strategy through the race.
