I'm in for IMOZ number 4 along with seven or so other members of Westies Joggers most of whom are members of LAPD or MacTri clubs as well.
I suppose most of us will be putting in our longest hours over the next couple of weeks before enjoying two or three weeks taper, and no doubt getting a bit edgy. I've been a bit late getting my bike distances up but happy with the way I'm feeling and recovering
and injury free (touch wood)
Hey Mango, if you read this it was nice to meet you on Saturday. You kept me honest for a while there but way too fast for me.

I think you are far too modest in your estimated race time

I might see you back out there in the next few weeks and will definitely see you at Port in just over 5 weeks

Hi all
Myself and a bunch of my tri club buddies are heading up to Port this weekend for a training camp (I am chief cook and bottle filler).
The guys are looking at doing a 2-3km wet suit swim on Saturday afternoon. The problem is "where to swim?"
Does anyone know a safe, shark free spot where it is possible from them to do this swim?
Thanks

WT,
I wouldn't worry about it being shark free. Just have them swim near me and as I'll be the biggest looking 'seal' in the area I reckon they'll pick me to eat.

Hey WT - might finally get a chance to meet up with you this time!
There's a regular local group swim that leaves from the entry point of the IM swim leg at 2.00pm on Saturdays (near the Sea Rescue Shed behind the Country Comfort Motel). There's guaranteed to be at least half a dozen swimmers there, which should be handy to firstly show you over the course, but also to increase the numbers in the water and reduce your chances of getting chomped. I'll be down there with a couple of mates in case that time works out well for you.
If you're not keen on a river swim, then as B+ mentioned the beaches such as Flynns or Town can be OK for a swim, although the swell looks like its building for the weekend at the moment. Best non-sharky open water swim is down at Lake Cathie although the water level is a bit low down there at the moment.
And if you're really, really keen, our local Tri Club has a race on this Sunday! Won't really contribute much to your long ride (it's a sprint race), but we allow guest memberships for anyone on the day
Hey Miners
Thanks for the tips.
The plan is to ride the entire course and then do a 10-15km run off the bike on Saturday morning. The guys will be starting from 6am so probably won't be finished by 2pm. I will pass on the info about the group swim to the guys as they may well change their plans around a bit to fit it in.
I'll be swanning around Port on my bike in the morning checking out the sights, cooking the guys a BBQ feast for lunch and then spending the rest of the day lying in the sun - gee this ironman training is tough
I don't know what you look like Miners but if you see a strange girl hanging around the Sea Rescue Shed at 2pm - good chance it's me!

I'll look out for you WT! I'll be the dopey looking one driving a silver subaru liberty and swimming in a 2XU with the red go-fast stripes.
By the way, the swell that I predicted was building has turned into a mill-pond this morning. So a beach swim would be certainly doable from the looks. The swim from Flynns over to Nobbys beach and back is a popular one, but a little sharky. Otherwise, swimming parallel to Lighthouse or Shellys Beach is an option.
And you know what? Seeing as you'll be up here doing all the hard work for the other slackos, you should definitely treat yourself to our race on the Sunday morning! We usually get about 60-70 competitors - it's only a 500m-20km-5km - it starts at 7.00am - costs you $10 - we're officially accredited as being the friendliest Tri Club on the face of the earth - and then you'll have something fun to do while the others are out there flogging themselves for 4 hours+ on the bike.
Club details are here -->
Port Mac Tri Club, or you can PM me or call on 0406316228 if you want any other details. What better way to spend a couple of hours on a morning when hubby and all his mates are abandoning you anyway!

Hi kids
Well there is only just over 3 weeks to go until the big race at Port Macquarie.
Sadly we won't be able to make it this time as the kombi is in for some body work and won't be ready by April.
We will however be looking after Helmet & Wildthing's pooch while they are in Port Macquarie. Momma Bear may even bake some more biscuits for everyone.
So train hard, eat well, sleep soundly and remember to take your vitamins.
Cheers

BTW, how is everyone going ?

I'm more of a lurker, than a poster here, but I will be in Port for IM #2. My wife Stacey will be lining up for IM#3. I will be pleased if I finish in 12-13hrs. About a 1.20swim, sub 6 bike and a 4.15 run. Yeah I know that only adds up to 12, but I'm factoring being a bit slower on the day. Stacey should do about the same times.

After Huski LC and 6 foot, it took me a bit longer than I thought to recover, and training hasn't been very consistent in the past 4 weeks. But I just spent 3 days in Forster and it gave me a huge boost of motivation. Going away to train is great and I have gone through all the last hard sessions planned without any trouble. I even added an unscheduled ocean swim race that the local surflifesaving club was putting one.
Regarding times, the below is a bit ambitious but I will give it a shot...

just back from a cruisy, non-training epic surfing long-weekend - damn happy not to be tapering this year

Hey muzz, if Kazz didn't already suggest it, then the streets parallel to Gordon Street such as Bridge and Waugh streets are in a good possie, but may be full. The back of Warlters Street where the old run leg used to start (you have to access it from Hastings River Drive), or even the Settlement City carpark could also be good spots.
Great to see some solid goal times being put out there guys. We'll hold you to them!
