20 weeks? Oh crap. that means only 18 after IMWA. Looking forward to a rest after OZ That will be 4 IMs in 16 months for me.
Oh, I am in, paid and validated. Accom booked and leave approved from work.

Thanks Will. So much for keeping my IM debut a secret
I guess this is as good a time and place as any to declare that I am targeting Port Mac 2008 for my first IM. To say that I am sh*t scared about the idea is an understatement but what is a goal if it doesn't challenge and take you out of your comfort zone.
With less than 20 weeks to go, training in earnest has begun. Accommodation is booked and validated entry will follow soon

eeek is it really only 20 weeks?

that is terrifying. I've entered and got accom but still need to validate in Canberra in about 4 weeks (if the lake is re-opened in time) By the way this will be IM#1! Good luck with the training everybody

Is Colin doing it. He has the bike.
I haven't heard him mention his swim training though.
All his k's he is clocking up with sailaway on the bike (what about sailaway as well?)
I had a dream to do an ironman when I saw that "ironman finish" (the first one) all those years ago. However that is all it has become a dream.
One day maybe, fifty next year.

He may have the bike , but has he got the body? No validation yet, left it to Canberra, however have been struck down by shingles which is going to take a few weeks.
Well....
Sailaway only rides for fun.
ps just don't mention the Canberra lake. The event organiser is very peeved about these rumours that the race is in doubt.
Info on the web is the only thing you should pay attention to.

Colin, if someone tells to go jump in the lake. It is okay to do it in Canberra.
I read transitions (they make our highjackers thread look like we are choirboys and this from race director "The official source of news for this event is www.canberrahalf.com - it tells you what has happened, and what will happen and what IS happening... it doesn't spin the truth... it gives you the plain facts.
Here's the situation with the return of Half Ironman racing to the ACT
The event is not postponed!
The Swim is not cancelled!"
Get in good health and get to Port Mac.

Jan 24 2008, 01:54 PM
Will,
Not looking very likely now.
I didn't allow myself enough time to recover from the shingles I had early Dec, went on the C2K jaunt etc and really still struggling to get a full week where I am not fatigued for a couple of days.
As it is I can still go and validate and finish in a reasonable time and likewise then do Port and finish in reasonable time. But given the cost of the exercise (Geelong approx $1,000 and Port $1,500) and the chances of not doing it again, I'd rather give it my best shot.
...but the door is still a bit open.

Hey Guys,
how's the training going? I was doing a couple of West head/akuna bay this morning and saw a lot of people. Bunny, it was me who said hello as I was going down Akuna (Have you got a new bike?)
And Mango, I'm not sure but I think we also crossed at West head?
Started very early and was pretty happy thinking I was going to stay dry. We got absolutely soaked in 5mn when the storm broke around 10:30.
Another tough session tomorrow and then recovery week, looking forward to it...
9 weeks to go...

Hey Will,
I'm not sure who you saw but it definitely wasn't me.
I spent my programmed 6.5 hours on the M7 cycle path/motorway.
On the training front, I'm reasonably pleased with the way things are going although fitting in 20+ hours of training a week is a real test of time management when trying to schedule it around work, family and other commitments.
Long run tomorrow followed by a nana nap
How is everybody else going ?

Raced hell of the west yesterday (2,80,20) for a pb of 4:41.
had an ok swim, good bike, then died on the run at the 10 k mark. trudged home totally shattered.
on the up side it's good to know that even totally shagged 5:30 pace is hard wired in the legs.

Will I did realise it sounded like a french hey Allison and yelled out hey Will in reply but I think you were around the corner down the hill and out of earshot by then. You looked like you were travelling well.
As for a new bike.. Maybe not. A guy that cycled past earlier had said to me that is a real genuine bike and I said and so is the owner and then felt like a real dork. I meant I was a newbie and the same calibre of the bike but when I said it it sounded like a line
I managed 140-150km on the saturday which is a lot but I am sure all the other ironmen people are now cruising 180km and have done for months. I still haven't done 180km and only 3 rides over 100km.
