Ryan Gregson from the Kembla Joggers club at a track meet at SOPAC today ran 3:43.84 for the 1500m.

He broke the NSW and Australian U18 1500m records held by Andrew O'Neill. Which was 3:46.34 from 2000.

He also broke the NSW U20 1500m record held by Dave Byrne. Which was 3:44.5 from 1999.

Last week he broke the Australian U18 5000m record.

And three weeks ago broke Craig Mottram's Australian U20 3000m record.

Anyone see the race, or get blown away in the freight train during the race?

Ryan Gregson (Kembla Joggers) has broken his third Australian record in the space of a month, this time smashing the U18 1500m record.

Gregson took two and a half seconds off Andrew O'Neill's previous record in winning the Open men's race at Round 5 of the Kings Track & Field Club Premiership. Gregson clocked a time of 3:43.84.

Gregson's run also surpassed the NSW U20 record of 3:44.5 held by David Byrne.

"I didn't expect to run so fast," said Gregson after the race. "I thought I'd be able to do 3:46."

The race unfolded perfectly for Gregson, but for those in the stands it must have been perplexing. Sydney University's Ben Liddy set the early pace for teammate Mark Abercromby, with the pair opening up an early lead on the second pack. The second pack was lead by Jeremy Roff, who was acting as a pacemaker for training partner Jeff Farrelly, with Gregson tucked in behind.

The fast early pace took it's toll on Abercromby after Liddy's duties were completed 900m into the race. Two hundred metres later Roff guided Farrelly and Gregson through the bell before also withdrawing from the race. By 300m to go the duo had caught Abercromby, who pulled out 50m later.

This left Gregson and Farrelly alone to battle out the race. Gregson was in the lead by 200m to go and gradually pulled away for the victory. Farrelly's time of 3:45.17 in finishing second was also a big personal best.

i was in the race but tucked in nicely at the very rear of the pack in my first competitive 1500 in six months so nontheless i saw virtually nothing but the pacers who dropped out as i pased them...
