I've volunteered to support crew a team in this years KEEN 400km Alps to Ocean adventure race starting 8th April in Falls creek and was wondering if any other CR's are in as a team or SC? I am thinking of giving it a crack next year prob as a third team member but want to get a good up close look first..only done one AR so far and that was a sprint so figure I gotta year to work on my other skills..like staying up all night for reasons that dont involve drinking and loud music.... laugh.gif

kartic,

I crewed for the Wacko Jackos in last year race along the Great Ocean Road area. What can I say?
Absolutely beautiful area, but also a very, very hard race.

We knew it was going to be fun when half the kayaks rolled in the first 5 minutes, including a double that snapped in half. I saw some amazing scenery, but also realised that doing a race put on by Mr Jacoby requires a serious amount of determination and dedication. Anyone that did his recent 100km mountainbike race will attest to the hardness of his events. A half day AR doesn't really compare to a race of this magnitude; it's a bit like comparing a 10km in sunshine to a 100mile in the dark, wet and cold without a flashlight.

Enjoy the crewing, it will be a blast. And admire the people that (knowingly) sign up for this race, I don't think there are too many tougher races out there.

Thanks for your comments Pasty..I'm really looking forward to it..i see it snowed up at falls yesterday..will pack the thermals! :-) I did OXFAM TW a few years back in 20hrs (run/walk) and understand the feel of the all night on the move thing... I think i got mesmerised by my bobbing LED headlight.its a weird feeling and I dont think I care to go as hard core as an"Eco Challenge" Keen state this one is meant to be a easier due to the "staged" nature of its format... hmm.. still sounds damn hard to me tho! Glad i will be in the car for this time anyway!

also undercover brother tried to search for "tamsin" to say hi but was unable to... how do you do search on here..I am clearly doing something wrong!

Yes, as UCB says I am in a team. Don't know how you seach for someone - but here I am anyway.
I'm driving down from QLD next weekend and thought I was prepared for the cold - but SNOW - that's taking things a bit too far - I'll need more than thermals.
It'll be the longest race I've done (48hours is longest so far) and I think the stage concept will have us all (including support crew!) going harder - and as for Pasty's comments - that's got me even more scared biggrin.gif

I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun as support crew Karctic - see you down there, or PM me...

Having only just heard about it on this thread I have been trying to track down info on this event... it looks like a hoot (which make me sad because I will have to miss out on the fun sad.gif ) unless I try to squeeze it in before trailwalker rolleyes.gif

how long are the run legs?

Hi Milov.. google keen alps to ocean..thats got all the info.. I think melb Oxfam runs over the last part of it cos I have a friend doing this yrs OF and I cant crew for her cos I'll be in lakes Entrance..there always next year eh!

The run legs are more walk/hike/jog legs I gather..and no one knows when/where/how on adventure races til the day of the event more or less... theres a lot of navigation involved....

enjoy TW... hope the weather is kinder this year than last.. I heard it was "nasty" :-))
