I wish I was doing secret training but alas have been away on work for a few days.

Once I survive the swim I will settle into the cycle and then the run and will hopefully still be in once piece for the party.....

I dare say that shot'is will have a better race then me but after all I am the ninja and who knows what may be pulled out of mt bag of tricks ninja.gif

Anyway will be down on the Bay on Thursday night and will try to make it to the Wed morning run but it will depend on work.

Good timing for the update Ninja, I was just about to rev you up this morning as well. You will be fine mate, just dont try and hold the wheel (7 metres of course) of Matty Clarke on the bike and you will be fine! Just remember that I promised to pay for all beer and cocktails for the first hour after I finish so be in front or inside that time and you will be all good (BTW this only applies to Balance TC members).

AK, please no talking up the prospects, let's just let the numbers do the talking this time around!

Bring on the sun, sand and wind of Yeppoon, this is gunna be awesome!

My spies tell me that a certain Balance TC Yeppoon racer has let the secret race weapon out of the bag early. Winky was left very impressed by the carbon everywhere machine that our mate was rolling around on Thursday morning with. Has she made the unveiling a bit early, time will tell. Maybe there is more to come, helmets, disc wheel, who knows!

Ok Ninja its now time for a tell all race account from your first half ironman triathlon. Please include a good description of water conditions becuase that part is a ripper! Congratulations mate you should be chuffed this week.

Well I finished my first Half IM although not in the time I was hoping for, which was 6 hours or less.

I had gone for a swim on the Friday to check the water temp and it felt OK, when I registered on the Sat arvo and saw that the water temp was only 16.9 I started crapping myself as I had no wetsuit. ohmy.gif

Soon as I the water got to chest height my body was screaming at me to get out of the water, after a bit of hyperventalating I pushed on and got to the first buoy. After going around the buoy I found my breathing was hard and though about pulling out, in the end I decided to flip over onto my back and did the rest of the course backstroke which I thought was quite a feat ! Ended up getting out of the water in 44 mins laugh.gif

Onto the bike and I stuck to my plan which was to do the 90k in around 3 hours, although the wind ended up costing me time and with transition I ended up with 3:14 split. Was feeling great getting off the bike and started the run alittle too fast and tried to slow myself down which I found hard to do. In the end my nutrition on the day didn't work for me and I my quads started cramping up before the first k was up. Tried to stretch out which helped for a bit but in the end I had run walk the 21.1k and my hope for a 6h time was crushed. Ended up coming in 6:49 which I though was better than pulling out and also considering that I did the swim with out a wetsuit.

All in all I enjoyed every minute of the race and will be back next year.

Next race for me will be Canberra Half and this time I am going to get a wetsuit !

mmm... backstroke sounds like fun biggrin.gif

ninja - buy the wettie & you will be amazed at the difference next time around.

Congratulations on finishing the event, I only wish I was there to cheer on my tri-buddies.

Cheers,
AK

ps. shotis where is your report??
shotis
This thread is Ninjas and i wont be highjacking it any further. My race report will be available on the Balance Tri Club website in the next few days I imagine. Congratulations to Ninja and our other club mates on their successful deflowering on Sunday. Could Ironman be next; only they know!

Shot'is' report is under lock and key until the next edition of the club newsletter hits the stands at the end of the month.

Thanks for all the encouragement Shot'is as well as the rest of the Balance crew, couldn't have done it without you !

As for Ironman, it's on the cards but I will need to sit down and work out a proper training plan. Will see the usual suspects on Thursday night for a slow run.
