I was a little dismayed when I arrived at the pool tonight... after having a lane to myself (ahhh bliss!! tongue.gif ) Saturday evening - I arrived to find only one lane open to lap swimmers tonight. That is out of at least 9 lanes.

Anyhow myself and no less than eight other lap swimmers of VERY varied ability hustled and bustled our way in a clockwise fashion, and while I did attempt a few overtaking maneovueres down the middle - this did result in a couple of head-ons!! wacko.gif

Some time into my session I was suddenly taken by surprise when these two fish - masquerading as teenage boys - actually started overtaking people UNDER WATER!!! That's right, they were dolphin swimming (very quickly, I was freestylin') UNDERNEATH people and just 'popping up' in front of them! Great! It totally cracked me up, I actually had to catch my breath after laughing underwater!! laugh.gif

Has anyone else sighted such dolphin / human creatures performing fancy overtaking moves?

No fancy over taking at the pool tonight but I was fascinated by a guy doing backstroke who was managing to completely submerge himself every second stroke in between gasping for air. A couple of months ago we were also witness to a guy doing breast stroke in leopard print speedos and large plastic sunnies, he was also really careful not to get his hair wet. Not what you'd normally expect to see at Cook and Phillip huh.gif

Just a whole lot of kids lining up to swing across and into the diving pool from the tarzan rope today whilst I was water running. Also three little kids seeing how long they could hold there breath for under water with the supervising adult (I'm thinking grandma) counting how long they were under for!!

When it comes to pool traffic - I'm a speed hump!

Thats funny Shankate - after 5 years of regular lap swimming, I just witnessed the exact same thing myself for the first time last week. Maybe its a new craze.
I thought it was a brilliant idea, but I am not sure I could pull it off myself.

You won't believe this but last night at swim squad we had a new kid swimming with us who did exactly the same thing to overtake me! I am a speed bump too.

I was pretty impressed and thought it was a great idea and worked really well.

We were in the competition pool at Sydney Olympic Park and the water is very deep. It might have been a little more interesting in the training pool where the water is only 1.2m deep!

I have enough trouble over taking the occasional breast stroker (very occasional), I could just imagine running out of breath under the water and popping up at the wrong time ohmy.gif blush.gif

Shouldn't there just be a pool for us lap swimmers, every pool is always so busy. I have never had a head on and never seen underwater swimming, if someone was swimming faster then me under water, I would not be very impressed...(with myself)
