Gordo is his name and he is looking to gain entry to the Crocidile trophy race in the NT. He is an endurance mountain biker and Won the 24hr Solo mountain bike world title in 2006 beating 6 time world champion Chris Eatough by lapping him in the race and setting a course record of 30 laps, 400km, on the course in the USA, the previous record was 26 laps!!
Gordo spent 2 days in hospital on a dialysis machine as his kidneys starte to shut down on him from the effort in the race.
Since then he has also won 2 marathon mountain bike National titles.
Unfortunately he has just spent the last 8 months recovering from shoulder surgery to fix an injury sustained when he was hit by a motortist when he was leaving work to go training.
He still has a full time job and works bloody hard to fit it all in.

You have to register yourself on their site and then you can vote. It would mean a lot to get Gordo to the start line as he has missed out on a few big events due to injury (Sydney 2000 Olympics due to a fratured spine) or illness (Athens 2004 due to a mouth infection that caused blood poisioning and major surgery)

If you want to see somebody in the "Hurt box" big time get the DVD out of the 24hr race and watch Gordo absolutely cane himself

I totally agree he is a machine...that movie 24 Solo is fantastic...not the movie the producers planned on making I bet

Talking to Craig after the 24hr worlds, it was funny watching this skinny little sunburnt Aussie. Talk about getting so fired up becasue the yanks were laughing at him in the feed stations, thinking he was going to hard. he said he spent the next lap saying to himself "Their laughing at me, their F%%^& laughing at me, nobody's laugh at me!!"
He then proceeded to go out and lap Chris and the IMAX film guys were blown away at how tough he really was. So i have little doubt he can go to the NT and show some of these overseas guys how good he really is.

So people vote please!!

A friend did the Croc Trophy last year. His stories about it are amazing and his training before hand was pretty(very) intense. Gordo'll get a vote from me.

If your up to that level of racing it'd be a shame to miss out on something like the Croc Trophy just because your a few votes short!

Yep only one of these three will get a spot. It does suck as all are pretty decent athletes.

Whoever wins it will be up against some very good racers from overseas with team support and all. This was the same for Gordo when he went to the USA to race the world 24hr titles. he arrived with 1 mate from here to help him as he had to pay his own way there. They had a big bag of gels with them and some other stuff plus two bikes.
Chris Eatough the 6 time world champ had a trailer van fully kitted out like you see on the TDF coverage and a whole team of mechanics etc.
Suddenly when Gordo was winning several other teams were willingto lend a hand as Hamish was trying to feed Gordo as required and clean his bike etc, etc. As you can imagine doingthis for 24hrs is tough on all concerned so I think because of the under dog looking like he was gonig to upset the favourite big time people wanted to be a part of it.
Gordo is the best chance of the 3 to do this in the Crododile Trophy in my view.

i voted for Gordo yesterday but it looks like Naomi is getting lots more votes. saw the thread on transitions too.
the whole thing sounds very hard core and crazy, i respect anyone who would even consider doing this!! Go Gordo!

Just an update. Gordo won with 53%of the vote!! He gets to race the Croc Trophy!!
