Well, the other half is getting himself back into cycling having seen me get back into running post-bubs and was thinking that maybe a team duathlon might be a nice way for us to have a bit of fun. I'm just wondering if anyone's had any experience with any of the races in the Brooks Duathlon series, and I guess specifically the knox one cos that's kind of local to us. I haven't entered any sort of race before, can't say we'll be in it to win anything (except perhaps comic relief if we're allowed to run/cycle with kid in stroller!) seeing as I normally shuffle about at probably 6 min/km, and my 'longest' runs are only just heading past 6kms. How does the transition part work for a team event?
SlowDave
I've done the sveral of the Brooks Duo's including Knox. They are typically a much more casual affair than tri's, mor elike the atmosphee of a Sri Chimoy race. There are a lot more beginners than the tri's because of no swimming (well duh cool.gif ). I haven't entered as a team, but typically there will be a tag point somewhere around the transition area.

6min/kms won't be a problem (that's about me). In the main event that will put you back of the pack, but in the shorter event further up.

If you have time (and maybe you won't with kids) hang about for the spot prizes. Last time I was there they had so many spot prizes almost everyone that hung around got one. A mate and I felt like the only ones that hadn't got anything and when I pointed it out he got a HRM, and all I got were socks. sad.gif

Thanks for the info, SlowDave - thinking we might try and spectate at an event prior or something, or maybe we'll just end up throwing caution to the wind and entering for a lark (: It probably depends on how much sleep I get!

Hi Driody

I agree with SlowDave, they are alot of fun and alot less competitive than a Tri. I have done a few along time ago but remember them being fun! 6 min kms is no problem and basically from what I rememeber you do the tag in the transition (basically the person stands at the bike). You will get plenty of help and there are lots of people to follow. Dont let lack of sleep put you off, Go for it and have some fun. (I did Tris when my boys were about 6mths and I loved it - I only did one tri a year until they were a bit older but still got out and did one and am glad I did)

Have fun happy training

Definitely a different crowd at the duathlons, most races seem to have a good spread over the range of competitors, so don't think your 6 min kms will be the slowest.

Quick note to mention that race 3 on the 16 Aug, will not be at Chelsea as the trivic website states at present. We've secured the Holden Testing Ground at Lang Lang for that race. It's a little bit out of Melbourne, but the new course will be worth it as the road is completely closed and has good roads for the bike, almost like the place was meant for this sort of race.

Definitely have a go at the duathlons. They're a great way to keep fit over winter and add a bit of variety in between the usual running events.

As Cotteneyes says, the Lang Lang course is an exciting edition to this year's series.
