Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get a bit more information on cycling. I am a complete novice - my bike is second hand and probably 30 years old, and I haven't done a lot of riding. But looking down the track I'd love to give the Sydney to the Gong ride a crack and would like to do some reading about cycling. Specifically I'd love some new bike routes to explore that don't involve traffic (I am a wuss about riding on the road).

Any suggestions on sites to visit?

For MTB stuff, you can't go past Farkin.net forums, or "Rotorburn" as it has recently been renamed....

You can try your local council website for details of bike paths. Your local tourist information centre or even the local bike shop might have a bike path map as well.

Hi Chisholm - have you seen the Bikely website? You can search for routes people have created and tagged whether they are on road, off road, bike path, light traffic etc.

The RTA site has a selection of cycling maps. There's also the M7 cycleway from Prestons to Glenwood, about 40k.

For general cycling info, you don't get better than www.bikeforums.net. Although it is an American site there is an incredible amount of info and people on there
